Charterfields opens Buxton office after 2017 expansion

Valuers and auctioneers Charterfields is expanding its operation after achieving a 15% increase in turnover as a result of strong international demand for its services.

The firm, which carries out valuations for corporate clients worldwide and disposes of property and business assets, has opened a new office in Buxton after breaking the £2m turnover barrier in 2017.

During the past 12 months, Charterfields has held its biggest ever auction to sell the contents of the world-famous Fountain Studios in Wembley, the home of some of the UK’s most popular TV shows including the X Factor, and has sold over £1m worth of business assets and over £2m worth of property.

It has also carried out valuations of automotive plants throughout South America, Europe, and Russia on behalf of four different global car manufacturers, and at all 800-plus retail and office locations in the UK, Europe, and the US on behalf of a leading fashion retailer. Meanwhile, it increased its client base in the aviation sector and now carries out valuations on behalf of all the major UK airports.

Originally based in Sheffield, Charterfields has retained its presence in Yorkshire but this year moved its headquarters to Manchester where it has doubled its office space. It also has an office in London. The company employs 16 staff.

Ian Maycock, who leads the Manchester operation, said: “All our staff has been busy throughout 2017 as buoyant demand for commercial property and plant is encouraging landlords and lenders to dispose of underperforming assets. Meanwhile, we have seen a big increase in requests for valuations. In part, this is driven by changes in the insurance market, but it also seems that big companies are taking better care of their assets and want the reassurance of up-to-date valuations.

“The UK remains a world leader in valuations and the Charterfields team is one of the most experienced in the industry. In 2018 we will continue to strengthen our presence in the regions while building our profile in the international arena.”
